LEIGH’S Kingstone Press Championship fixture against Featherstone - scheduled for Sunday, August 10 - will now be played on Friday, August 8.
This is because the Sports Village has been chosen to host the Tetley’s Challenge Cup semi-final between Castleford and Widnes. That game will take place on Sunday, August 10.
Leigh chairman Mike Norris said: “Everyone at Leigh Centurions is delighted that our partners at the LSV have been awarded the second Tetley’s Challenge Cup semi-final between Widnes Vikings and Castleford Tigers.
“We are immensely proud of our home and feel that yet another big event taking place in the Leigh area can only be good for the development of rugby league at all levels.
“To support our partners we have agreed that we will play our home game with Featherstone Rovers the previous Friday, 8th August, with an 8pm kick-off.
“We intend to make a spectacle of what is probably our biggest game of the season and hopefully will get a suitably balmy August evening for us all to enjoy this great fixture.
RFL Marketing Director Mark Foster said: “We are anticipating huge demand for tickets for what will be two compelling Tetley’s Challenge Cup ties and our advice to fans is to purchase their tickets early to avoid disappointment.
“Leigh Sports Village is a perfect venue for the semi-finals and will provide terrific backdrops to some high drama as the four clubs showcase the sport to a national television audience.”
