MARTYN Ridyard is ready to make his first appearance since guiding Leigh to victory in the Kingstone Press Championship Grand Final win over Featherstone.
The half-back - named the Championship Player of the Year in 2014 - has had to sit out Centurions’ first two friendlies of the year as he recovered from a shoulder operation.
But coach Paul Rowley intends to start with Ridyard as part of a strong 20-man squad to take on Keighley at the Sports Village on Sunday.
“We will have Martyn back in the team and also Kurt Haggerty,” said Rowley. “Keighley are a rugged team which has caused us problems in the past couple of years and we’re expecting a tough challenge.”
Last year an Adam Higson try in the last minute snatched victory for Leigh at Keighley after they looked destined to lose. Centurions went on to win their next 12 games.
“Keighley really get in your face and like to frustrate you,” said Rowley. “We will have to go strong against them.”
Leigh squad to face Keighley: Gregg McNally; Adam Higson, Greg Worthington, Tom Armstrong, Liam Kay; Martyn Ridyard, Ryan Brierley; Jamie Acton, Sean Penkywicz, Oliver Wilkes (Captain), Kurt Haggerty, Tommy Goulden, Sam Barlow.
Subs: Ben Reynolds, Fuifui Moimoi, Bob Beswick, Jake Emmitt, Jonny Walker, Andrew Dixon, Sam Hopkins, Jonny Pownall.
