RFL Chairman Brian Barwick congratulated Leigh Centurions this afternoon as they lifted the Kingstone Press Championship League Leaders’ Shield.
Leigh, who beat Doncaster 66-10 this afternoon at Leigh Sports Village, have lost only one game this season and were closely followed by Bradford Bulls who also have eyes on promotion to the First Utility Super League in 2016.
Barwick has been impressed with the quality of games in the Championship this year which sees the Centurions and Bulls joined by Sheffield Eagles and Halifax in the Super 8s - The Qualifiers.
“There has been a real edge to the action in the Kingstone Press Championship this season. It has provided highly entertaining and keenly fought contests from the start.
“Congratulations to Leigh Centurions on winning the League Leaders’ Shield. Paul Rowley’s men have proved themselves to be a formidable team, both in the League and the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, and they will now go forward into the next stage of their campaign confident they can continue that run of form.
“Congratulations also to Bradford Bulls, Sheffield Eagles and Halifax who will join Leigh in The Qualifiers along with their First Utility Super League rivals.
“It promises to be a fantastic set of matches.”
