LEIGH hooker Sean Penkywicz has extended his contract at the club for a further year until November 2016.
The popular Leigh-born hooker joined the club from Halifax at the end of the 2012 season.
After a good start to the new season Leigh Centurions head of rugby Derek Beaumont moved quickly to exercise the club’s option at an early stage.
Penkywicz, 32, is joint vice-captain for the Centurions alongside fellow hooker Bob Beswick and has made more than 300 senior appearances including 88 in Super League for Halifax and Huddersfield. He has also represented Wales and passed the 100-tries career milestone during the 2012 season.
Leigh Centurions coach Paul Rowley said: “It’s great that Penky is extending his stay with us and will continue to be a key player in our armoury.
“His form has been brilliant and the way he applied himself over preseason to get into such good condition fills me full of confidence that Penky still remains one of the best hookers in the country.”
Penkywicz said: “I am delighted to be staying with Leigh Centurions. It’s what I wanted as I enjoy it so much here. The team is doing good at the moment and there’s no harm going for another year.”
