Atherton Laburnum Rovers celebrated their first home game for almost two months with a hard-fought victory over new-look Litherland REMYCA.

The Merseysiders have strengthened their side in recent weeks and this was an impressive win for LR who now move into the top five.

After a goal-less first half the hosts took the lead when Jon Stephenson’s shot was deflected past goalkeeper Sean Lake by one of his own defenders. A fine run and cool finish by Matty Davies doubled the advantage as LR’s stand-in keeper Craig Boothby ensured a shut-out at the other end.

This Saturday LR are at home again as fourth placed Barnton visit Crilly Park, 3pm kick off.
