Leigh Harriers were dominant in the fourth Central Lancs. League Road Race Series at Haigh Hall on Wednesday; the Leigh team had the winner of the Ladies’ race and won both the ladies and men’s team races.
The race was over a two-lap four miles course around Haigh Hall; Neil Pendlebury won an outstanding 4th place recording a time of 21:25 for the undulating course, Tony Battersby 9th in 21:54, Tommy Henders 10th and Phil Williams 12th 22:15, they were the winning team counters beating arch rivals Bolton for the third time running.
Dionne Allen was also in top form winning the ladies race in a time of 23:04, Louisa Thompson getting back to top form was 3rd lady 23:58 and the third team counter for the team was Emma Moore in 20th place 28:46 putting the ladies team firmly in top spot in the league with the men’s team closing the gap on Bolton in second place. Team captain Phil Williams said that it was “ only a matter of time before both the men’s and women’s teams lead the Grand Prix”. The teams were well supported by Liam Thompson 22:36, Dave Smith 23:11, John Howarth 23:57, James Cooke 24:09, Alex Urmston 24:31, Joe Dillon 24:48, Garry Dutton 25:24, Alan Smith 25:36, Eileen Castledine 32:08 and Diane Denny 39:52.
