Harrier Keely’s a record breaker

IN a powerful display of front running, 12-year-old Leigh Harrier Keely Hodgkinson broke the National Young Athletes League Under 13 girls record for the 1200m at Litherland on Saturday, in what was the final league match of the season.

Keely now holds both 800m and 1200m records for the Youth Development League – a nationally run league – having clocked 2:20.8 for the 800m at Leigh in the first match of the year, and now 3:43.2 for the 1200m – she has also broken her own club record at the same time.

She is ranked 1st in Great Britain for the 1200m distance this year and her new time ranks her 2nd in the All Time rankings for an U13 girl.

The team was dogged by holidays and injuries in what was the last match of the season.

Billy Blain was top point scorer for the team with 1st in the shot put 6.91m, 2nd in the Javelin 22.07m and 2nd in the 200m B race 30.2sec scoring 22 points for the team. Karran Kapur -Walton won third places in the 100m 14.2 sec 200m 28.6 sec and High Jump 1.25m winning the Overall Points total for Leigh harriers’ boys with a total of 77 points for the season; Karran has had a good YDL season and has broken the club record for the boys U13 High Jump with 1.30m.

Kyle Jones had a good day of athletics, he was 2nd in the 1500m 5:11.2, 2nd in the B Shot 3.17m and 4th in the Long Jump 3.20m.

Shea Mellor placed 2nd in the B 1500m and 6th in the Long Jump 3.48m. Aaron Lester placed 2nd in the High Jump 1.15m, 3rd in the 100m 15.3sec and 4th in the 75m Hurdles 16.7sec.

Joanna Smith kept the points mounting with 2nd in the 150 mts 22.8sec and 3.51m in the A long jump. Grace Newton was 5th in the Shot 3.30m, 6th in the 800m and 6th in the 75m 12.5sec. Leah Kinsella won 6th places in 75m 12.00 sec, 150m 23.6sec and Long Jump 2.83m. In the under 15 competition Sanna McLean was the top female scorer for the team with 2nd in the long jump 4.41m, 3rd in the Discus 14.54m and 4th in the 300m 45.3 sec - a total of 18 points for the team. Sanna also was the team’s top female scorer for the YDL scoring 68 points. Jemima Mary in her first competition in the league for the team won third places in the 100m 14.5 sec, 200m 29.7sec and Shot Putt 6.95m. Kristian Wade ran a gutsy race to clock a personal best time of 4:40.7 in the 1500m and was 4th in the Shot Put 4.14m.

Connor Patterson ran a best time of 43.6 secs in the300m, 28.1 sec in the 200m and 5th in the Long Jump 4.13m. Issy McMillan was in good form winning the B Shot 5.92m, 3rd in the 300m 49.1sec and 3rd in the 800m 2.46.3. Chloe Davis scored well for the team, 4th in both the Long Jump 3.58m, 1500m 5:47.4 and 5th in the Javelin 16.05m. Jacob Briscoe ran 2:15.00 in the 800m for 4th place. Eve Williams clocked 2:30.7 in the U15 800m; Emily Newsham scored valuable points for the team 3rd in the 100m 14.4 sec, 4th in the 200m and 6th in the Long Jump . The team finished in overall 3rd place in the league and will compete in the North West Division 3 in 2015

On the road Neil Pendlebury won the Horwich Jubilee 5 mile road race on Wednesday night in a time of 26:41, Dave Smith in 3rd place 28:37 and Scott Christey 26th 32:16. In the Sale 5km Sizzler Ryan Butler ran 17:07 for 30th place, Liam Moore was 58th in 18:00.

Laura Riches won an invitation 1500m steeple chase at Stockport in a personal best time of 4.59.00.
