Barrow’s former Leigh forward Anthony Bate is facing a ban of between five and eight matches after allegedly confronting spectators at a Kingstone Press League 1 match earlier this month.

The player was sent off during the Raiders’ 18-16 win over the Knights at Heworth for a high tackle and, after being apparently taunted by home fans, went into the terracing and had to be escorted by club officials to the dressing room.

The Rugby Football League held an investigation and on Monday its match-review panel charged Bate with a grade E offence of contrary behaviour and ordered him to appear before an independent disciplinary tribunal on Tuesday evening.

In Super League, Salford centre Josh Griffin and Widnes stand-off Kevin Brown have both been charged with grade A offences of punching during Red Devils’ 24-10 win in the Super 8s Qualifiers on Sunday.

The panel also issued formal cautions to Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin, Catalans Dragons second rower Benjamin Garcia, St Helens centre Mark Percival, Hull KR hooker John Boudebza and Leigh players Bob Beswick and Adam Higson.
