Leigh Miners Rangers have been handed a tie against familiar faces in the first round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup as they will travel to Hull Dockers on the last weekend of the month.
The all-Premier Division clash stands out as one of the most evenly-balanced of the draw made at Wembley Stadium last week and while Miners would have wished for home advantage they can still reflect on a relatively successful record at Tower Grange over the years, including victory in their one previous Challenge Cup meeting back in 2009. The game will be played on Saturday January 31.
Meanwhile the under-18s produced a valiant effort in their National Cup first round tie against league heavyweights Orrell St James before missing out 18-12 in Sunday afternoon’s game.
Despite the result it was a fine first performance by the young team who will now look ahead to the start of their league campaign later in the winter.
