Comfortable success for Tyldesley

Tyldesley 41 Oswestry 0

In atrocious conditions, Tyldesley put on another superb team display, earning them a bonus point win against fourth placed Oswestry.

From the off the hosts dominated through some excellent rugby. Forward drives had Craig Pulman provide a good ball for Paul Martin who broke with Lee Davies touching down beside the sticks. Martin Wallbank converted to make it 7-0 after 10 minutes.

Tyldesley had to wait until the 24th minute before their next score, which came via a scrum in the visitors’ 22. Brilliant handling, from the backs had Gavin Hunter finish off.

Seven minutes later, Tyldesley recorded their third. Carl Redford produced a great offload to Mark Dickinson who broke then fed the supporting Zack Sargent, for Tyldesley’s last score of the first period. Half time 17-0

Oswestry came out fighting after the restart and held the upper hand for the first 10 minutes of the second half but a solid Tyldesley defence protected their line well.

The hosts recorded a bonus point try, in the 53rd minute. A quick tap penalty had Sargent break, with the ball being moved, after a few phases, from right to left for Wallbank to touch down.

By now, Tyldesley had regained the upper hand, which had the rest of the game, practically played in the visitors half.

Hunter collected the ball and crossed for his second in the 65th minute, after strong forward drives gave Paul Martin time to put in a brilliant kick into space.

With the opposition now constantly on the back foot, Tyldesley recorded two more converted tries in the last 10 minute. A Sargent break was rewarded with Wallbank going over for his second of the game. He then completed his hat-trick five minutes later after good team drives and handling created space on the right.

MOM Zack Sargent

Thanks must go to the Edge family who sponsored the game in memory of Neil Edge, a great Tyldesley follower for many years.
