Leigh Centurions Reserves will play the BARLA National Open Age side at Leigh East on Wednesday, 27 May (7.30pm) in a challenge match.

Paul Anderson’s Reserves side has had only fixture so far this month after Featherstone Rovers called off their intended visit last Thursday as they were unable to raise a side.

So they will be keen to return match action in what is an intriguing fixture. The BARLA Open Age side are preparing for their tour of South Africa in October and the game is a fund raiser to support them for their tour.

The game is being sponsored by AB Sundecks and all proceeds from it go to the tour fund.

Former Leigh Centurions forward Sean Richardson and fellow BARLA coach Martin Rowse have trimmed down their squad in readiness for the trip and Richardson explains the game is vital preparation for the challenge ahead.

“We have now selected our tour squad and all the players that will feature will be part of the tour,” Richardson explains. “It has been a tough and challenging period deciding on the final squad and now we can concentrate on methods and style of play and making sure the players gel with one another ahead of the tour.

“This game is an ideal challenge for us. Leigh Centurions are a good club with a great coaching structure and the Reserves side are coached to play in exactly the same way as the first team. They have some very talented players in their squad and we are very much looking forward to seeing how our lads perform against them.”
