TWO of Leigh’s key players are out of Saturday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fifth round tie against Salford.
Forward Fuifui Moimoi and hooker Sean Penkywicz have failed to recover from their respective injuries in a serious blow to Leigh’s chances of a Cup upset.
But former Salford forward Gareth Hock is in the Centurions line-up after the club said he would play despite a legal row between the player and Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash.
Leigh have already sold more than 5,000 tickets for the game which is being shown live on Sky Sports.
Centurions have won their last 20 games and currently top the Kingstone Press Championship.
The sides have met on just eight previous occasions in the Challenge Cup, the last in 2001 when Paul Terzis’s Leigh side defeated Super League Salford 16-12 in a fourth round tie at Hilton Park.
Salford were victorious over Leigh in 1900, 1903, 1907, 1981 and 1983. Leigh’s only previous victory over Salford in the competition was a 6-4 third round win at The Willows in 1958 after a 6-6 draw at Kirkhall Lane.
