Leigh Centurions have released Richard Beaumont from his contract so he can join Whitehaven.

The 27-year-old prop signed for Centurions after his release by St Helens at the end of last season. Born in Hull he came through the junior ranks to make his Super League debut with Hull KR in 2011 before moving to Saints at the end of the 2013 season.

He made three appearances on loan at Rochdale Hornets earlier in the season and in April joined Whitehaven on a similar arrangement and has so far made eight appearances for the fellow Kingstone Press Championship club. Beaumont did not make a first-team appearance for the Centurions during his time at the club.

Leigh Centurions head of rugby Derek Beaumont said: “It has been a difficult year for Richard which obviously set him back during the early stages. He is a great bloke and a great trainer and he has worked hard up at Whitehaven.

“Unfortunately for Richard he hasn’t been able to force his way in. With all our middles staying fit and performing really well there has been a lot of competition which was added to with the signing of Gareth Hock. I would like to wish Richard well at Whitehaven for the rest of the year.”
