Religious rulings are crossing the line

I totally agree with Mr McCann’s letter about the wearing of a cross at work (letters September 12).

My mother was Italian and a Roman Catholic. She would turn in her grave to hear of this affront to her human rights.

I can’t see this happening in Italy or Spain where Christian statues are displayed on virtually every street corner.

I agree that it is hoped that the rule about the wearing of all items of a religious nature is applied across the board which I somehow doubt.

It seems to be OK to offend Christians but Heaven forbid anyone else!!

Do these legal boffins not realise that this is the first step to religious discord. Isn’t there enough fighting over religious beliefs in the world without sowing the seeds in this country? I am sure that everyone in this country wouldn’t want that, whatever their religious beliefs.

How you can help our Poppy heroes

The leaves of autumn are starting to fall and the red Poppy of Remembrance is starting to bloom.

It is that time of year when we start to remember all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and give sincere thanks to those whom returned. The Royal British Legion is the nation’s foremost ex-service charity and it needs your help. This year the Legion celebrates 90 years since its formation back in 1921.

Ninety years helping our heroes and it is still helping all of those who come to the British Legion for help and assistance both young and old.

It is essential we raise the money necessary if we are to continue to give that help and assistance to others. Never more so today with our service men and women engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Legion needs help in all areas of Lancashire.

Will you be our hero and give one hour or more of your time to help this very worthy cause?

There are lots of ways you can help, go on – give it a go you’ll enjoy it.

If you can help then please get in touch on 01772 745839 or telephone the Poppy hotline 0788 425 3848.

Thank you in anticipation and I look forward to hearing from you.

The haters are winning battle

The decision not to screen Tom Holland’s documentary on Islam, understandable given the threats he received, is yet another example of Britain’s continuing surrender to religious intolerance.

To take the three main world religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam as an example, I put the following question to their followers.

They all believe that their God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, so why don’t they leave it to him/her/it to take care of any perceived offences? They should look on the positive side, religion has been the most successful financial business created by man.
