A WIGAN man had to be cut out of his car and taken to hospital following a crash near St. Thomas’s church, Ashton.

Precautionary checks were carried out on the 50-year-old’s neck and spine after the accident at 8.45am on Sunday.

The patient was treated and given first aid by fire worker’s present at the scene on Warrington Road.

They who heard how the car’s tire had recently been changed as it broke down on the motorway as the driver was heading home that morning.

Part of a wall, near a local pub, has been demolished as the accident caused the vehicle to end up on the other side of the road to the church.
