POLICE are appealing for information after a 40-year-old man was assaulted in the street.

At around 1.25am on Saturday July 25, the man was stood on Market Street in Westhoughton when a man approached him and punched him, knocking him to the floor. The offender continued to hit him before he walked off.

Now police have issued a CCTV still of a man they would like to speak to.

Detective Constable Pam Chandler said: “This was an unprovoked assault which continued after the victim was knocked to the ground. The offender only stopped when the man was knocked unconscious.

“We have released an image if a man we would like to speak to and would ask anyone who recognises him to contact police as soon as possible.”
