THE Canal and Rivers Trust says it will respond to any recommendations made for Liverpool’s Albert Dock following the tragic death of groom-to-be Dale Joint.
The 24-year-old died during his own stag do after getting into trouble in the water at the Salthouse dock on Saturday night.
An inquest into Mr Joint’s death has not yet been opened but a spokesman for the Trust yesterday said that any recommendations made by the coroner.
“Public safety is kept under constant review by ourselves and all the organisations responsible for the dock estate,” said the spokesman.
“It is now for the coroner to examine the facts that led up to the recent tragedy and we will, of course, respond to any special recommendations he may make.”
The young father, who was due to be married in the next fortnight, was found by firefighters after an extensive search in the waters of the Albert Dock on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.45pm to reports of three people in the water.
Two other ben, believed to be friends of Mr Joint, were taken to hospital as a precaution.
A spokesman for Albert Dock owners Gower Street Estate said: “Albert Dock Liverpool offers its deepest sympathy to the families involved at this time.
“We would also like to praise the speedy response of the emergency services and our on-sight security team.
“This tragic incident has now been referred to the Coroner’s Office and we will support their investigation.
“Albert Dock welcomes over six million visitors each year, and their safety is our number one priority.”
Tributes were left for Mr Joint, who is from Leigh, on social networking websites.
One from his auntie, Gail Isherwood, said: “Taken too early the much loved soulmate of Katie and amazing father to Amelia. Our darling and funny nephew. Can’t believe it. Heartbroken. Tragic. Love you to heaven and back.”
She later added: “Dale was on his stag do in Liverpool due to be married in two weeks. He thought he was jumping onto something near the boats but slipped in between and hit his head and never came up again.”
A police spokesman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that the 24-year-old man who died following an incident at Salthouse Dock on Saturday, August 22 2015, is Dale Joint.”
