Generous people in the Leigh Reporter’s circulation area have helped raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
But it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of volunteers from Rotary Clubs who kindly accompanied and provided transport for Father Christmas when he visited the area.
President of Leigh Rotary Club, Barrie Coates said: “More people than ever seemed to photograph Santa and his sleigh. Whilst the pleasure brought to the children (and their mums and dads) was worth all the effort, the amount raised was tremendous and will be put to good use for worthwhile causes.
“Rotary would like to thank the Leigh Reporter for publicity; Asda, Tesco and Bents for allowing collections on their premises and also the New Garrett Theatre’s members who were in fancy dress helping with the house to house collection. They will be continuing the Christmas festivities with their pantomime at the Formby Hall in Atherton”.
And the Rotary Club of Westhoughton, who were kindly loaned a brand new car by Bolton Kia to make sure Santa had a smooth ride around the streets of the town, raised £6943.56.
Westhoughton Rotary President, Jim Yates, said, “I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us in any way, not only the many kind-hearted people for their donations but also the staff of Tesco and Sainsburys for giving us permission to collect outside local stores. Thanks too to the local restaurants and hotels who allow us to collect at their premises at Christmas time.”
“Many thanks too to all the volunteers who worked so hard collecting with the sleigh.”
