ORGANISERS of Leigh’s Race For Life are thanking the thousands of women who took part in the event earlier this month and urging them to get their sponsorship money in quickly.
Cancer Research UK will use the cash to fund vital research into 200 types of cancer and the Race for Life event manager for Leigh, Debbie McConnell, said: “Race for Life at Pennington Flash was a fantastic event and we are so very grateful to everyone who took part or supported our participants.
“We also had fantastic support from our wonderful volunteers who included the Leigh Harriers, the 316 Air Cadets and lots of Key Volunteers who support us right across events in the North West and beyond, they really do help to make this and other events happen.”
The event was also supported by Key103 presenter Fiona Sadler and her street team, Gemma Openshaw from Rosemary Conley’s Health and Fitness Club helped to get everyone warmed up with an Aerobic routine and Clare Dickinson, senior research nurse gave a speech.
Lynne Hill, on the first time she had taken part, was the first lady to cross the finish line in 21 minutes.
She said: “Now the big day is over, we are asking our supporters to take one last step – by returning the money they’ve raised.”
