A CAR was destroyed by fire in a suspicious blaze which then spread to a long row of fence panels.
Firefighters were called to an address on Higher Green Lane, Astley, at around 9pm on Sunday.
The crew found a silver Ford Ka in a lane at the side of a detached house well ablaze, with the flames also spreading to around 12 metres of fence panels.
The hatchback and fence was completely destroyed by the fire, but the crew managed to prevent the blaze spreading to a garden shed and a garage.
The property’s occupiers told the firefighters they believed the car had been parked in the lane for around half an hour before they noticed it was on fire.
The incident is being treated as suspicious and has now been passed to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
