Store relaunch success

REPRESENTATIVES of Leigh’s rugby league club and coal mining industry helped a national chain re-launch its store in the town.

John Duffy from Leigh Centurions and Geoff Jones, chairman of the Astley Green Colliery Museum, cut the ribbon on the revamped Wilkinson store on Lord Street, joined by Centurions mascot Parky Pig.

The store also presented £250 to the Centurions, which will go towards buying kit for the club’s under-18s team, and the museum.

Shoppers getting their first look at the re-design, which will allow a greater range of products to be sold in the store, were given the opportunity to enter a raffle and win a trolley filled with products from the Wilkinson home and kitchen ranges, with the proceeds being donated to Age UK.

Youngsters were also entertained, with the first 60 children entering the store receiving a goody bag and a balloon modeller giving out spring-themed creations.

The store also celebrated the Easter weekend with a range of activities, with an Easter Bunny entertaining shoppers and handing out miniature eggs and face painting on Saturday.

Store manager, Tony Pagliuca, said: “Re-opening day has been a huge success.”
