A SECURITY guard was robbed as he made a delivery of cash in Atherton.

At 12pm on Friday 22 July 2011, a security guard was making a delivery of cash to the Natwest on Market Street.

As he walked back to his van, which was parked opposite the Last Orders Inn, two men got out of a silver car and ran towards him.

The man thought he was going to be attacked so he dropped the cashbox he was carrying.

The robbers picked up the empty cashbox, ran back to their car and drove off

The security guard was uninjured.

Both robbers were described as men in their early 20s, about 6ft tall and were of slim build.

The car was a silver saloon.

Detective Constable Ian Pennington, based at Wigan CID, said: “We are determined to catch the men responsible for targeting a man simply trying to do his job.

“It was a busy time of day and we’d ask that if you saw something, no matter how small or irrelevant you think it is, to contact us.

“Robbery continues to fall in Greater Manchester and we have achieved that by working with communities to prevent incidents and find offenders put them before the courts: please help us continue with this good work.”
