A store at a popular Leigh retail park was evacuated on Wednesday following a gas leak.

Workmen cut through a gas pipeline near to Halfords on the Parsonage Retail Park around midday.

The site was evacuated with police closing several roads nearby and firefighters taking safety measures to ensure the leaked gas did not ignite.

Gas engineers were quickly on site and isolated the leak, a spokesperson for the fire service said.

Greater Manchester Police re-opened the roads shortly before 2pm.
