CCTV images of two men police would like to speak to following an unprovoked assault have been released.
The 24-year-old man was standing at a taxi rank on Railway Road in Leigh when he was approached by a man who punched him in the face.
The man tried to get to safety but a third man appeared and punched him to his ribs.
The victim suffered a dislocated finger and injuries to his face as a result of the attack on September 11 at 4.30am.
Police have today, Tuesday, released CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to in connection with the incident and are asking members of the public to help identlfy them.
A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a section 47 assault and has been bailed until January 9 pending further enquiries.
One of the men is described as a white man, slim build, dark hair, wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Another man is described as white, medium build, with dark hair and a dark beard and was wearing light blue denim shorts and a white/grey t-shirt.
Police are keen to speak to the two men in the CCTV images.
Police Constable Emma Fenton of Wigan division said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack, in which a man was seriously assaulted.
“His night out ended in hospital and I want to find the men that put him there.
“These images are very clear and I’m hopeful that someone will recognise the men. If you do, I would urge you to contact police.
“Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since September in relation to identifying the men in the CCTV images, who are believed to be local. However, so far these have proved negative.”
