TWO bogus roofers conned an elderly Wigan woman out of hundreds of pounds.

It happened between 4pm and 4.30pm on Thursday March 13, when the strangers called at their 71-year-old victim’s house on Bolton Road in Ashton.

They said they had carried out work on a neighbour’s roof and claimed she also needed work doing on the house.

The woman declined the work, but the men became very insistent and intimidating and she reluctantly handed over money to have her chimney repaired.

A few minutes later one of the men returned to speak to the woman and said her roof also needed fixing and it would cost more money and again she reluctantly handed over the money.

He then told her to write down her name and address so he could put it on the receipt. At this point the men returned to their van and drove off.

They have not been back since and no work was carried out. The first offender is described as white, about 5ft 8ins tall, of average build, between 20 and 30 years old. He had a rough weathered complexion and spoke with a Wigan accent.

The second is described as white, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build with a round face and dark ginger hair, aged between 25 and 30.

Det Con Rachel Forsythe from Wigan division, said: “These offenders have preyed on an elderly woman and today, we have release an image of one of the suspects.

“I would ask people to contact the police if they have any information that may assist in this investigation.

“In particular, if you know the offenders I want you to examine your own conscious and do what is right and identify them.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124/7295, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
