A MAN has been jailed after he brutally attacked and robbed a man in his own home.
David Dempsey, 43, of Kernishaw Nook, Astley, was found guilty of murder following a re-trial at Liverpool Crown Court today (Wednesday). He was sentenced to life and will have to serve a minimum of 30 years in prison.
On Sunday, August 25, Dempsey stabbed Mr Butterworth, twice in the front and twice in his back, before stealing his wallet which contained around £400.
Mr Butterworth called his niece and told her he had been stabbed before calling the emergency services. He was taken to hospital for treatment for four stab wounds and a collapsed lung. Mr Butterworth never recovered from the attack and sadly died in hospital a month later.
