FRIENDS of tragic cliff fall teenager Toby Hart have organised a charity football match in his memory.

Players from Toby’s old team, East Leigh FC, will take on a side made up of his friends to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Toby, 16, who lived in Lowton and was a student at St John Rigby College in Orrell, died after falling 50ft from a cliff while on holiday with his family in Cornwall in July.

The memorial match has been organised by a group of Toby’s closest mates including 17-year-old pal Marcus Mercer.

He said: “We had been talking among ourselves and we wanted to do something for Toby. We used to all play football together so this idea came up. It was just a group decision really.

“I used to go to Lowton High School with Toby and he played a few times for the school team. I got him to come down to play for East Leigh after that, he was a goalkeeper.

“It will be nice for all his friends to get together for him. I joined the army after leaving school but I always met up with Toby when I was at home. Some of us haven’t seen each other for a while.

“We’re hoping for a big turn-out and we can see lots of his family and friends.”

Toby’s mum, Sally, has been overwhelmed by the support given to her family from Toby’s pals.

She said: “They are all fantastic and just continue to be so supportive. They call in at the house for a chat and have even been doing little jobs for us.

“I think it helps them just being around as they feel close to Toby when they are in the house. And of course it helps us out a lot because we can talk about him. They even tell us stories about what Toby used to get up to that we didn’t know about before.

“It’s just lovely. When I first heard about the plans for the match I just thought how nice all his friends are.”

Money raised will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as one of Toby’s friends from work has the condition.

Sally said: “Toby’s friend Cole Moores, who he worked with at Topman in the Trafford Centre, has cystic fibrosis so we felt the trust would be the perfect recipients.”

The memorial match will be played at Leigh Toc H, Hope Carr Road, on September 22 at 11.30am. Refreshments will be available with proceeds also going to charity.
