Marjorie Marsden from Shakerley, has been crowned tenant of the year at the national TPAS awards 2015.

Marjorie, vice chair of Wigan and Leigh Homes board, beat off stiff competition to claim the title at last night’s (9th July) TPAS national awards ceremony in Warwickshire.

Marjorie is a passionate advocate for tenants both in her role as Vice Chair of Wigan and Leigh Homes Board, Wigan Council’s housing company, and as a volunteer in her local community of Shakerley. Among her many roles Marjorie helps run the local community centre, organises a youth club for young people on the estate and runs the local Beavers Group for younger children.

Janice Barton, Chief Executive of Wigan and Leigh Homes, said: ‘We are very proud of Marjorie and pleased that her tireless work to improve the lives of tenants and residents on our estates has been recognised. Marjorie is a great role model for the difference volunteering in your community can achieve.”
