Man on trial for having a knife

A WIGAN man is to stand trial for possessing a knife in a public place.

Joseph Patrick O’Rourke, 31, of Central Avenue, Leigh, appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with possessing a knife in a car park, in Mealhouse Lane, Atherton, on Monday, June 6.

He was also charged with begging in a public place on the same day, which has now been withdrawn.

O’Rourke was released on unconditional bail and will attend Liverpool Crown Court, where he is expected to enter a not guilty plea, on Tuesday September 13.
