Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed following a road traffic collision in Atherton.

At around 10:45am on Thursday, November 20 2014, a 72-year-old man was crossing Gloucester Street near its junction with Bag Lane on his mobility scooter.

As he was crossing the road, he was hit by a Blue Nissan Note that was turning right from Bag Lane into Gloucester Street.

The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he sadly died a week later.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Paul Higgins said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with this poor man’s family, who are understandably devastated with this tragic loss.

“We are still trying to establish the exact circumstances of what happened so I would like to ask anybody that has any information to please contact the police.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
