A MAN was hospitalised after a head-on collision in Westhoughton.

The accident happened on Chew Moor Lane at around 3pm on Saturday, when a red Vauxhall Corsa collided with a blue Ford Fiesta.

The 23-year-old driver of the Corsa was heading towards the motorway when he was in collision with the Fiesta coming the other way.

A 46-year-old man, who was driving the Fiesta, was taken to the Royal Bolton Infirmary suffering neck and back injuries, while a 46-year-old woman trravelling in the Fiesta and the Corsa driver were both treated for shock at the scene but declined hospital treatment.

The scene was attended by fire engines from Atherton and Farnworth, and crews took around half an hour to clear the scene.

Police closed Chew Moor Lane for around 30 minutes while fire crews cleared the scene, but the road re-opened without any major delays.
