A man has admitted injuring his partner’s hand in a slammed door.
But a special hearing will have to decide which version of events is true: whether Christopher Higgins flung the bedroom door shut on purpose in order to injure her, as the prosecution claims, or whether it was an accident, as he alleges.
The prosecution also alleges that the 34-year-old, of Green Avenue, Tyldesley, punched the woman to her neck and mouth, bit her cheek and neck and grabbed her by her throat.
Wigan and Leigh magistrates decided that while he pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, the prosecution and defence events were so markedly different to have a major bearing on sentencing levels. And so they adjourned the case until May 17 when a Newton hearing will be held to settle on which is the correct one.
