TERRIFIED staff were threatened with a machete and knife as armed raiders targeted a Leigh amusement arcade.

Police today appealed for information about the raid carried out by two men wearing motorcycle crash helmets on Wednesday evening.

They struck at Noble’s Amusements in Bradshwgate shortly after 7pm, the raiders threatening a man and woman who were working inside.

The man was grabbed by the throat and the woman ordered to lie on the floor and demands were made for cash.

The gang then entered a staff room and stole some cash before leaving down an alleyway towards Gas Street where they escaped on a motorcycle believed to be red and the size of a 125cc, onto Chapel Street where they drove past Leigh police station.

Before the robbery the offenders were seen driving the wrong way down Bradshawgate on the motorcycle.

A bag containing coins was recovered nearby.

No staff or customers were injured.

Both robbers wore dark clothing and gloves. One was white, 6ft tall, of slim build with blue eyes and was armed with a machete and was wearing a black and red motorcycle helmet. The second offender, who was armed with a knife, wore a dark coloured helmet.

DC Kevin Telford of Wigan CID said: “Three people simply going about their work and a number of innocent customers have been left shaken as a result of this incident and it is important we bring the two responsible to justice.

“The men thought nothing of brandishing weapons and threatening staff to get hold of whatever cash they could and if anyone knows who is responsible I want to hear from you.

“Did you see anyone in the area on a motorbike before or after the incident? Do you know someone matching the descriptions with access to a motorcycle or have you overheard someone talking about this? If so get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 5307, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
