HERE’S the first edition of the Leigh Observer, a completely new newspaper with fresh ideas about how we serve our town.
The Leigh Observer is your newspaper and we want to hear your voice ringing loud and true throughout its pages.
We have one agenda and one agenda only, to promote the town of Leigh and the interests of everyone who lives and works here.
We’ll be reporting on the issues that matter to you and campaigning on the issues that most affect the town.
It is fitting and we’re proud that our first campaign is in support of cancer-stricken Leigh youngster Charlie Taylor.
The three-year-old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form childhood cancer, in early August. He is currently undergoing an intensive course of chemotherapy.
Our ‘Charlie’s Journey’ campaign is to raise funds to help his family in their hour of greatest need. Anything that can be done to help will be greatly received.
We also carry this week an exclusive interview with the town’s MP and shadow home secretary, Andy Burnham.
Mr Burnham endured a tortuous summer campaigning for the Labour Party leadership and admits how much he enjoys being back in Leigh and reveals he’s unlikely to stand again for the party’s top job.
There’s also unrivalled coverage of Leigh Centurions and the entire local sports scene.
We kick off with a bumper eight-page review of the Centurions’ season, an exclusive interview with new signing Harrison Hansen and the explosive views of our new columnist, a certain Mr Derek Beaumont, the Centurions chairman, plus pages and pages of amateur sport.
Don’t forget, the Leigh Observer is your paper and if there’s an issue you want to see us tackle then get in touch and tell us what you think.
