A PROBE has been launched after a man’s body was found on the railway tracks.

The as-yet-unidentified victim is thought to have been hit by a train on the line neat to Engine Lane between Atherton and Walkden.

His body was discovered at 7.15am yesterday (Tuesday) and for more than two hours rail services faced serious disruption with trains re-routed via Bolton and road transport laid on for those waiting at stations between Hindley and Salford Crescent.

A British Transport Police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and efforts were continuing to identify the man and trace relatives. A file was being prepared for the coroner.
