Wigan Council is offering council tax relief for around 70 homes and business rate relief for up to 10 businesses which have been impacted.
The council is now working in partnership with two local charities - Community Warehouse and Compassion in Action to co-ordinate donations of good quality furniture for those whose possessions were damaged.
A Just Giving appeal is also open for people to donate money to those affected by the floods.
Furniture for the Wigan area can be dropped off at the Community Warehouse, 4 Hodson Street, Wigan, WN3 4EN (at the back of Go Outdoors)
The warehouse is only open to accept donations from January 4 2016.
Anyone wishing to donate furniture in the Leigh area can contact Compassion in Action on 01942 418830 who will arrange for the furniture to be collected.
Compassion in Action is only available to collect on Thursday December 31 and then from Monday January 4 2016.
Any donated furniture should be in good condition and fully usable.
If it is soft furnishing, it should have a fire retardant label on the item.
If anyone is wishing to donate mops, buckets, towels, cleaning products, tinned food and other useful items these can be dropped off at Wigan Council’s Life Centres or at any library.
Wigan Life Centre and all libraries are open on Thursday December 31.
All will re-open on Monday January 4.
The Greater Manchester Flood Relief Fund set up by Forever Manchester is appealing for monetary donations via Just Giving on: https://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/forevermanchester/GMFloodRecoveryAppeal
Anyone who has been affected by the floods and needs help and support should come into Wigan Life Centre.

The leader of Wigan Council, Lord Peter Smith, said: “We are committed to helping and supporting those who are in need as a consequence of flooding.
“If people have spare furniture or other essential items which will be of use to those affected by the floods then we would urge them to donate them at this time.”
The council is continuing to communicate with government about financial support for those affected and will update once more information is known.
