THE mother-of-the-bride had a tear in her eye as her daughter and son-in-law became the first couple to marry at a local care home so that she could be at the ceremony.
Belong Atherton, on Mealhouse Lane, hosted the inaugural ceremony for Ruth Foulkes and Barry Woods on Wednesday (June 20).
And Ruth’s mum, 83-year-old Kathleen Foulkes, thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Ruth and Barry had considered places all over the world, before choosing function room The Venue at Belong.
Ruth said: “My mum’s mobility isn’t what it used to be, and I knew moving the celebration to the Leigh area would be the only way she could attend.”
Belong Atherton General Manager, Julie Washington, added: “When Ruth explained the great lengths she was going to so that her mum could be involved in the wedding, we were more than happy to apply for a marriage licence for The Venue.
“Having one of our residents, Kathleen, involved as mother-of-the-bride made the occasion all the more special.”
