Gym owner’s fury at dog owners over cat attack

THE owners of two dogs have been blasted after their pets were caught on camera mauling a cat to death.

The distressing attack was captured on the CCTV cameras of the Heaven v Hell Fitness gym in Pemberton on Monday night and also shows two men retrieving the animals afterwards before casually walking away.

The gym’s disgusted owner Daniel Ryder has told the Wigan Evening Post how he was notified by a member who left the Alpha Business Park gym and found the cat’s lifeless body inside the grounds.

After checking his closed circuit television footage, he found how the cat was chased into the compound by one of the dogs before being joined by the second.

The three animals then disappear off screen before the two men come and take the dogs away without checking on the cat.

Mr Ryder posted the video on his Facebook page with him talking through what has happened after the event, and has passed the footage on to Wigan Today to publish in a bid to expose the owners.

These people need to be caught and dealt with. I rang the police but they said they couldn’t do anything as it is a civil matter

He said: “It is absolutely disgusting, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“These two dogs are clearly aggressive; why weren’t they on leads? I was so angry watching it back.

“This is totally unacceptable.

“We rang the council and they came and collected it and the microchip is being checked as there were no tags on or anything.

Mr Ryder says a member of his gym who works at the council organised for the animal to be collected with the aim of finding the owners through a microchip.

As well as concern for the cat, Mr Ryder has also voiced his concerns for local children.

He said: “Another thing is that there is a nursery next door. What if these dogs were off their lead while there were children around?

“The gym’s co-owner also has a young son and a lot of our members have children who sometimes come here. If these dogs are so vicious towards a cat, what’s to say they would be different with a child?

“I have a smaller dog as well so they could have attacked that. I’m just so angry at these two men and how they didn’t try to drag the dogs away.

“I hope by putting this video out there, these people can be identified and something can be done.”
