Funeral details for Leigh legend Charlie Pawsey

THE FUNERAL details for a Leigh rugby league legend who recently died have been announced.

Second rower Charlie Pawsey, who played at Hilton Park for eight seasons between 1947 and 1954 and also captained Great Britain, passed away at the age of 88 after a short battle with lung cancer.

His family are inviting anyone from Leigh who would like to pay their respects to attend the funeral, which will be at St Luke’s Catholic Church on Swinton Park Road in Salford at midday on Thursday, January 26.

This will be followed by an internment at St Mary’s Cemetery in Wardley at 1.15pm and a funeral buffet at The Morning Star pub on Manchester Road.

His family have asked mourners not to send flowers but donations to Salford Lads Club will be gratefully received.
