A LEIGH company is celebrating after winning a prestigious innovation award.
Niche Products, which specialise in creating water-based hydraulic fluids for the offshore oil and gas drilling industries, has scooped the Queen’s Award 2012 for its Pelagic range of eco-friendly, high-performance fluids.
The company, founded in 2001, has gone from strength to strength and now has offices around the world in addition to its base on the Moss Industrial Estate. Its products are used to help drill for fossil fuels in some of the world’s most sensitive and fragile environments such as seas around Norway and Alaska.
Company founder Tom McKechnie said: “Having had the privilege of growing up on a small unspoilt Scottish island I am understandably passionate about protecting our beautiful coastlines and waters from environmental pollution, and it is on this ethos that the entire Niche organisation is based.
“We are all very proud as individuals and as a company to be recognised for our efforts in this field. This is a success story for Niche. To have our efforts recognised by the Queen is a true honour.”
