POLICE have told of their shock at two savage attacks in which victims had parts of their ears bitten off.

Arrests have been made in connection with the unrelated incidents, but officers are today still appealing for witnesses.

In the first, a 19-year-old man was injured during a fight outside Madison’s Club in King Street, Wigan, shortly after midnight on Sunday October 30.

Police particularly want to speak to a woman who identified a suspect to them but then disappeared.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries. The victim was taken to Wigan Infirmary for treatment and assessment and has been told he may now be referred to Whiston Hospital for plastic surgery.

In the second incident in the early hours of this Sunday, a 26-year-old woman was in the Hare and Hounds pub, on Golborne Road, Golborne. A fight broke out between two groups of men and the woman tried to intervene. But she was grabbed by the hair and pulled to the floor by another woman. She then bit off part of her ear.

The victim was taken to hospital where she has been undergoing surgery.

A 35-year-old woman from Wigan had been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

Det Chief Insp Howard Millington of Wigan CID said: “This was a shocking attack on a woman who was simply trying to break up a fight.

“She has been undergoing surgery on the ear but she is going to be scarred for life now. There were a large number of people in the pub at the time and I want them to tell me what they saw.”
