A PENSIONER with dementia was flung to the ground as she bravely fought in vain to stop a mugger from stealing her handbag.
Police say it is lucky the 82-year-old was not seriously injured in the attack by a man who is described as being dressed like a jogger.

And branding the assailant a “coward”, officers today appealed for information about the robbery which took place at around 5.30pm on Tuesday when the victim was walking on Lancaster Road, Hindley.
Her assailant rang up behind her, lunged at her and made a grab for her bag.
There was a struggle and she was dragged to the ground before he wrested the bag from her grip and made off with it towards Gloucester Crescent.
A witness to the attack took the shaken but relatively physically unscathed pensioner back to her home and called the police.
It is understood that the victim did not require hospital treatment.
A description has been issued of the culprit.
He is said to be white, in his late teens or early 20s, of medium to athletic build, with short brown hair, and clean shaven, wearing dark shorts, a vest and trainers.
Det Con Danny Ritchie of Wigan Police said: “This man has sought out an elderly victim as she has been seen as an easy target.
“He has also proved how much of a coward he is by approaching his victim from behind and knocking her to the floor.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crime and saw what happened, to contact us immediately.
“We are determined to catch this man but need the public’s help in doing so.”
The police point out that the attack took place at one of the busiest times of the day so there was a high likelihood that there would be other witnesses among residents, pedestrians and passing motorists.
