A MAN stole a can of beer and a sandwich at a Wigan train station cafe after telling Police he felt suicidal.

Paul Scally, 46, was arrested after he stole the goods from the Pumpkin cafe last Friday.

Appearing at Wigan Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning, Scally, of Devon Street, Leigh, admitted theft and said he had just split with his wife of 14 years and was depressed. He was ordered to pay £5.79 in compensation, £100 costs and was given an eight week curfew to remain at home from 7pm and 7am.
