Firefighters were called after a car was discovered on fire on a residential street.

Crews were called to the maroon Ford Fiesta on Brideoake Street in Leigh at around 5am on Tuesday November 8.

They found the vehicle well alight on the corner of the street next to a garage and used hose reels to extinguish the flames.

Although they managed to save much of the passenger compartment the engine bay was almost completely destroyed and the vehicle is a near-certain write off.

The crews worked quickly to prevent the fire spreading to either the garage or the row of terraced houses nearby.

No-one was around when the firefighters attended, with a passer-by spotting the blaze and reporting it to the emergency services.

The cause of the fire could not be determined and the incident has now been passed on to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
