WIGAN and Leigh Housing is helping people to find a bigger life online by running a week of events throughout the borough next week to encourage people to learn to do more using computers and the internet.
Anyone who wants to improve their skills can come along to the events taking place between Monday and Friday October 15 and 19 and get a taste for what the internet has to offer with some friendly help and support. This training will give people the confidence and the skills necessary to make use of the free Internet access available in community centres and libraries around the borough.
Marjorie Marsden, vice-chairwoman of Wigan and Leigh Housing and a Tenant Board member, said: “While there are a lot of people who have never been online before, there are also a lot of people who can do a little but want to do more.
“During Get Online Week, we’re giving them the chance to come along to our event and brush up their skills with a helping hand from our staff and volunteers.
“We are focusing on helping people to find out how to save money online, although whatever your interest there’s really something for everyone and we’ll be able to provide all the help and support they need.”
Wigan and Leigh Housing recently received a Highly Commended in the national Digital Unite Spring Online Best Event Awards for helping 117 local people get online.
Get Online Week is the largest campaign in the country that helps people to improve their computer and internet skills so they can take advantage of all the online world has to offer.
In October 2012, 3,000 events will be taking place throughout the country, so people can find a local place to brush up their skills.
If you are looking to do more online, you can come along to one of these local events to get a helping hand to improve your skills.
