War veterans, army cadets and official dignitaries gathered to remember lives lost in the Boer War.
Members of Wigan Army Reserve Centre were joined by military veterans, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Lady Joy Smith, as well as the borough’s outgoing Mayor, Coun Susan Loudon, and chairman of the Friends of Boer War Memorial John O’Neill, to lay wreaths during a ceremony in Mesnes Park.
Captain Jimmy Aspinall, B (DLOY) Sqn QOY, Army Reserve Centre, said: “Because the Boer War was before the First World War, it seems to be forgotten about, so every year, at the end of May, we try to so something to remember it.
“It was a great event and wonderful ceremony. Everyone appreciated it.”
