A DECISION about the future of the largest piece of peat bog land in Greater Manchester has been delayed.

Eric Pickles, Community Secretary of State, was expected to announce the government’s ruling today on whether to grant William Sinclair Horticulture Ltd permission to extract peat at Chat Moss for the next 15 years.

But the case has been postponed and the conclusion is expected to be made next month.

There were nearly 600 objections to the work, with regards to the impact on biodiversity on the land which borders Leigh and Salford.
