A MAN asking for ‘pregnancy pills’ and complaints of maggots in a bin are just some of the bizarre calls being tackled by emergency service workers.
Police are warning callers that they must only dial 999 in an emergency after Greater Manchester Police dealt with a huge influx of inappropriate calls during the recent sunny spell.
GMP dealt with an average of 3,571 emergency and non-emergency calls a day during April, May and June. This increased by 19 per cent in July. On top of this, police dealt with thousands of miscellaneous calls.
Amongst recent calls to 999 was a woman complaining about maggots in her bin and a man who rang to complain that somebody had stolen his car park space.
Police say every inappropriate calls risk lives.
