UNSIGNED bands will put their live acts on the line in front of a panel of judges at a charity battle of the bands.

Six bands will take to the stage at Bar M, in Tyldesley, to battle it out for first place in an evening raising money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The acts looking to take the glory span a range of styles, with energetic punk rockers The Crownings and indie acts Whatever Floats Your Boat and The Hypes among the bands who will be taking part.

The line-up will be completed by electro-influenced act Dean Lane, whose music blends covers by the likes of Queen and The Lemonheads with their own original material, indie band Standing Room Only and Leigh female-fronted classic rock band Dr Roxx.

The winners will be rewarded with a weekend of studio time courtesy of The Lounge Studios, with owner Gareth Nuttall joining music teacher Rick Asbury and the Leigh Reporter’s very own Andrew Nowell on the judging panel.

The night will conclude with a guest headlining performance from jangle-pop quartet The Lottery Winners, whose retro indie sound is influenced by 1970s and 1980s groups including Blondie, The Cure, The Smiths and New Order.

The night is being organised by hospice fund-raisers Debbie Clarke and Lindsey Glen.

Debbie said: “We wanted to do something fun and enjoyable, and as we both like our music we decided on a battle of the bands.”

The battle of the bands is on Friday, November 16, at Bar M in Tyldesley, starting at 7pm. Tickets are £3 on the door.
