A prestigious award has been given by the Rotary Club of Leigh to honour the tireless efforts of a local rugby union stalwart
Mike Hampson, a member of Leigh Rugby Union Club for over 35 years, has been chairman and also spent the last 15 years as secretary.
He has upgraded the pitches, improved the ground and been involved in mini, junior and youth rugby.
The Paul Harris Fellowship award was presented by Vice President Frank Bowker of Leigh Rotary at Leigh RU Club and Rotarian John Bullough said: “This award is quite rarely given and only presented to a person who has undertaken exceptional service, work or an achievement for the community. Mike Hampson fits this bill very well with his dedication and continuing unpaid efforts for the good of this club and the community.”
The presentation was a complete surprise to almost everyone and Mike said: “I am totally shocked but very pleased to receive the award, which I dedicate to everyone at this club who have given so much help over many years.”
